Anything is possible with Tesla’s ideals

The famous eccentric inventor Nikola Tesla, is one of the most important men in the history of technological innovations. Tesla created hundreds of different inventions that helped the world reach its current technological standards. In the novel, Distant Waves, by Suzanne Weyn, Tesla is portrayed as one of the main characters in which he proceeds to show off his amazing inventions. The novel begins on a peaceful day with a mother and her children. They roam around a park until an unusual large scale earthquake begins. Everything begins to shake and the children are scared. Nikola Tesla swiftly comes out of one of the buildings and ushers the family inside for safety. After getting them inside, he leads them to his work space where there is a machine on the floor. Tesla starts to break the machine with a sledgehammer explaining how this machine was the one that started the earthquake and that he is the one that invented it. The mother of the family is shocked by what he is saying. After the earthquake stops Tesla begins to explain what type of inventor he is and how he believes vibrations exist all over the world and with the specific vibrations you are able to see and do things that most normal people can’t accomplish. With what Tesla said about vibrations and his crazy experiments, I believe that anything is possible. 

The main story surrounds Tesla and his earthquake machine. This one machine has led me to believe that if you are able to dream up something you have the ability to make it into a reality. Tesla was a crazy inventor and he persevered through all of his hardships and continued creating. When Tesla began describing his life and younger years, he stated how he worked to improve Edison’s inventions without pay and also lit up the Niagara falls and did not accept any money for his deeds. These inventions all had a common goal which was to benefit others or for the people’s enjoyment. All Tesla had to do was to think of it and believe in his ideas and he was able to create. Even without pay for some big projects he still had the skills and knowledge to continue making and everything would just everything come around and work out. Having a mind like his allowed him to create the famous earthquake machine. As stated by Tesla “I dreamed it. Many of my greatest inventions have come in dreams”, so when his machine ended up creating an entire earthquake in Manhattan it proved his point. The result of his experiment was even greater than expected making it a huge success. 

A second example of anything being possible was when Tesla started explaining the possibility of ghosts. When the mother of the family asked Tesla if he believed ghosts are real, he did not deny her question or even laugh at this. He took the question seriously as if he thought of this before. By explaining that everything moves at specific vibrations and using the hummingbird as an example he came up with a way of explaining the chance of ghosts being real. By having such an easy approach to questions and an actually thought out answer to ridiculous questions Tesla proved how great of a thinker he is. I believe that through this type of thinking people are able to use their minds at a greater capacity instead of just sticking to common textbook knowledge. You won’t be able to chase your dreams if you stick to common knowledge. You have to go outside of that box like Tesla and go after your goals and think creatively. By saying “I believe everything is a possibility” Tesla already accepted every possible outcome and is willing to talk to others about anything. 

In conclusion it is evident that by having a wide imagination and creativity you are able to come up with explanations to the world’s greatest mysteries and even solve your own problems. With Tesla’s innovative thinking and out of the world inventions he achieved fame and respect from thousands of people. Through this novel Tesla proved to me that if you can work hard for your goals you are able to get there and everything will be possible.
